About the Historical Suomitalo

Suomitalo was completed in 1911 as the headquarters of the “Suomi” Insurance Company. The building’s façade was designed by architect Armas Lindgren, with the layout by Onni Tarjanne. The central sculpture on the façade, depicting a mother and child, was created by sculptor Emil Halonen. Suomitalo is part of the Paratiisilintu Block (Block 66), which was once home to notable Finns, such as Johan Vilhelm Snellman. Alongside Suomitalo, the block also includes the adjacent Kalevankatu 6 building, a functionalist expansion completed in 1938.
